It isn't hard to see why most people don't bother to vote. The Strasbourg parliament has no influence on the composition of the most powerful of the EU's governing institutions, the European Central Bank.Its influence on the unelected executive, the European Commission, is extremely restricted.
And when it comes to making the EU laws that penetrate almost every aspect of our lives, though the European Parliament has more real powers than the farcical Westminster talking shop, they are nothing like those of a true parliament such as those to be found in the Netherlands or the Nordic countries (more)
