Multinational Barter Companies Meeting In Paris
The coming Paris Barter Conference, as reported in the Tuesday Report over the past month and scheduled for May 1 and 2, will see barter company executives from Europe and Asia coming together in the largest multinational gathering in the history of the commercial barter industry. The industry was formally created back in 1979 with the advent of the International Reciprocal Trade Association (IRTA).
The importance of this meeting is to rally around a response to regulations being drafted by the European Commission that seeks to impose capital requirements on barter companies.
Barter Assembly chairman Dr. M. Sirri Simsek, president of Turk Barter International in Istanbul, will preside over the conference. Assisting Dr. Simsek will be IRTA Global Board member Dr. Lee Oi Kum of Barter Exchange Singapore and IRTA Board member Maximilien Urso, president of Efficio in Paris.
IRTA’s President David Wallach and IRTA Executive Director Ron Whitney, as well as IRTA’s first Executive Director Paul Suplizio, will be in attendance from the USA.
