UK complacent about World Bank failings

[BWP Alert] UK complacent about World Bank failings: lax DFID report lacks plan for progress

DFID's annual report on its work with the World Bank highlights serious weaknesses in the Bank's work on gender and the financial crisis, but overlooks numerous failings, particularly on health, climate impacts and governance reform. Despite the UK being the largest donor to the World Bank's International Development Association, and agreeing this week to an increase in the Bank's capital, the report fails to set out clear and ambitious steps to ensure that the Bank delivers for development. It shows that DFID - like the Bank - still has a long way to go on effectiveness and accountability.
