Citigroup Warns Customers It May Refuse To Allow Withdrawals
"Effective April 1, 2010, we reserve the right to require (7) days advance notice before permitting a withdrawal from all checking accounts. While we do not currently exercise this right and have not exercised it in the past, we are required by law to notify you of this change," Citigroup said on statements received by customers all over the country.
What's going on? It seems that this is something of an error. The seven day notice policy only applies to customers in Texas, Ira Stoll reports at The Future of Capitalism. It was accidentally included on customer statements nationwide.
"Whatever the explanation, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in Citi," Stoll writes. "But it's hard to believe a bank would be sending out a notice like that on its statements."
Don't you just love it. They want seven days to give you your OWN money!! What's Next? Permission slips? Asking you WHY you want your own money? I can forsee a run coming.
RispondiEliminaMy own bank, or should I say past bank, has come up with some of the screwiest rules I've ever seen. Lowes was taking money out of my account and I didn't give them permission to do that. They caused me to bounce several other checks. I went to my bank and they actually told me that they could not stop Lowes (GE) from taking the money out? What? Just who's money is this?? Who's account is this? They're taking money out because some person in India said, she said YES..??!!! grrrrrr
I told them I wanted to close the account and they would not let me. Why? Because I had a lien (from Lowes) against my account .. I also owed the bank over $100.00 for bounced check charges! LOL I told them they could eat the charges, I wasn't paying for them and was taking my business elsewhere. I've sent Lowes and the bank certified letters stating that I never gave either permission to do this. Tis the only way..
Banks need to listen up! Back in the day, a bank would bend over backwards to accommodate the customer. Now... hmmmm I didn't even get a toaster with my screw job!
