Changing Seasons

Dear Friends

Having finished a powerful 8-day “Shapeshifting” workshop at the Omega
Institute in Upstate New York in August (with my co-facilitator, Llyn
Roberts) and anticipating the upcoming “Master Healer and Shapeshifter
Apprenticeship, Part 1” there October 18-25 (also with Llyn and
followed by Part 2 in late April), I am struck by the changing seasons.

We are leaving summer behind, entering fall, ending the Obama
honeymoon, beginning a period when we all understand that we must
commit to reawakening ourselves to the values we hold deep in our
hearts.

For me, it is also the ending of writing another book, entitled
HOODWINKED (Random House, Publication date: Nov 10, 2009), that took
me, during the past few months, to Iceland, China, Panama, and many
parts of the U.S. And deep into the woods of my native New Hampshire
where I spent magical hours communing with nature and myself.

I felt the power of the symbolism of this 9th month of the 9th year in
this millennium, by the ending of the first season of the Obama team,
the anniversary month of 9/11, the approach of the infamous Mayan
2012. . .

We are indeed entering a watershed moment in human history, one that
is prophesized by the Maya, Quechua, Tibetans, and so many others. The
power of this was brought home to me during that August workshop. The
participants included corporate CEOs, the president of a major
foundation, another former economic hit man (although this one was a
woman), and people from other professions who would not have
considered attending such a workshop ten years ago. Or even five. We
are coming together, business s and indigenous elders, eagles and
condors, because we are realizing that we must come together.

The ceaseless wars, economic collapse, climate change, and
environmental destruction have taught us that we simply have to act –
we have to change, shapeshift, ourselves and the ways we relate to the
world.

HOODWINKED emphasizes that (as the back-of-jacket says):

There is a way out. The modern form of empire is not built primarily
on the back of the military. It is subtle, market-based, and it
depends on our voluntary choices. We hold the power – if we only
recognize it. This book provides a blueprint for creating an economy
that fosters a sustainable, just, and peaceful world for us and our
children. It offers concrete actions each and every one of us can take.

We are entering the beginning of a season of change that is, I
believe, comparable to the Agricultural and Industrial revolutions and
to the time when city states merged into nations. It is a challenging
and exciting time to be alive.

The seasons are changing and it is up to you and me to determined the
nature and character of the times to come. Let us each look deep
within ourselves. Let us each identify our deepest passions and commit
to using our individual talents to fulfilling those passions. Let us
work together to create the world we want for ourselves and our progeny.
