Economist Antal Fekete writes tonight that Barrick Gold's plan to close most of its gold hedges won't be enough to avert the ruin of the company in a rising gold market. Fekete adds that the timing of Barrick's announcement makes him more inclined to believe that Barrick has not been operated as a real mining company at all but as part of a U.S. government scheme to suppress the price of gold.
