NO PLACE TO HIDE

Just as I was thinking that “No Place To Hide” would be a good title for another article, I received an e-mail from someone who read my Job Patronage article. He said he was born in 1940 and he’d move if there were somewhere he could go. That’s is what I hear so often from people but I ask, “Where will you go?” Revelation 6:15,16, 17 tell about the time they’ll try to hide themselves under the rocks.
And then Coach Dave Daubenmire comes along with his depressing article “Lawless Will Abound.” Part of the lore of Daniel Boone is that when he could see the smoke of another cabin, things were getting too crowded and he headed west. While I’m glad I don’t live in large population centers where we see civilization disintegrating on a daily basis, country dwellers cannot escape it either. There is no place to hide.
Private investigators used to go through garbage looking for evidence and the blimp in the sky with a camera over sports events used to be a novelty but today our national and international infrastructure is a better surveillance mechanism than Orwell in his book 1984 could have ever dreamed and it seems unstoppable. Some can be used for good but most will be used for evil.
With all our new technology, leaders are finding it difficult to censor the protestors defying the recent election in Iran. The young people are using all technology available to get the word out. While they want bilingual education in our American public schools, it is interesting to note the protest signs are in English in Iran.
During the 1980s radicals were promoting the Sanctuary Movement and liberal congregations were proclaiming themselves to be “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. But in early 2009 pastors across the country were being called on by the Department of Homeland Security to join “Clergy Response Teams” in order to placate and control the people of America in the event of local or national emergencies.
But it wasn’t the illegals they were worried about. A few months later as government officials were hearing about the planned Tea Party gatherings on April 15, 2009, that same Department issued a warning that they are watching large numbers of right-wing protestors. The American Gestapo (Homeland Security) wanted all of these Americans to know they were suspects and were being watched closely! The Assessment published as an Unclassified/For Official Use Only document by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security fears the current economic climate and because of the historical presidential election that put an African American in the White House may fuel resurgence in radicalization and recruitment. Selwyn Duke in his article about who are the most violent states it perfectly “Which Side Really Inspires Violence, the right or the left?”
The Assessment mentioned the proposed imposition of firearms and restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of right-wing extremists groups as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government (something the Declaration of Independence allows when a government is corrupt) And, yes it did. More guns were sold than ever before. And, of course, lets not forget those right-wing anti-abortion radicals. So where were these “watchdogs” when Scott Roeder allegedly killed late-term abortionist, Dr. George Tiller in Kansas City who was an usher in his Reformation Lutheran Church? And now certain conservative talk show and TV personalities are being accused of causing the death of Dr. Tiller.
Government files used to gather information on such groups as the Black Panthers, KuKluxKlan, Minutemen, militia and others but today they concentrate on the “right wingers” with the help of millionaire direct-mail maven Morris Dees of the Montgomery, Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights lawyer and an implacable gun foe who boasted in 1976 “within five years we’ll break the NRA.” He has made a career fighting hate but it wasn’t until he discovered the “far right” that he really began earning the big bucks. The head of The Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, even issued a “vet threat” that returning fatigued veterans might be “rightwing extremists” who they feared with their combat skills would be recruiting others.
That was about as bad an insult as arrogant Senator Barbara Boxer who recently told a Brigadier General appearing before her committee that she preferred to be called Senator instead of “Maam.” Why? Because she said she worked hard to get the title of “Senator.” Military personnel are trained to use the word “Sir” and “Maam” as a sign of respect but no problem. This Senator and many others like her haven’t earned our respect. Probably somewhere along the line this gentleman risk his life for her “right” to even be in Washington, D.C. not alone a privileged, narcissistic Senator. This man did not rise through the ranks like they do in politics with only name recognition, often very few brains and a perennial staff to spoon feed them what to say and what to do in any given circumstances. This phony couldn’t make it through basic training and yet she would dare to speak to this General with such obvious hostility.
And then I read about the so-called Census worker who stands one foot from our front doors of every home and with a hand-held GPS, enters the information the worker is hired to obtain. One woman in the orientation class jokingly asked, “What if a person lives in a cave?” The instructor gave the serious answer that she was to go to the entrance of that cave and enter the information. He then said, “There will be no place to hide.” The workers were also told that they were not to give any information about their project to anyone or they would be fined and/or jailed!
Parents have become disgruntled with the government’s public schools so they have vacated the system by the droves and have gone to home and private schools with a distinct advantage because the students can read well and they know science and math. Tests to acquire scholarships and to get into law school, graduate school, and medical school are all being rewritten to measure students’ adherence to the new federal curriculum, which is about attitude and values. Tests are no longer knowledge based which puts the home and private schools at a disadvantage now. The advocates of the new federal curriculum don’t care if children are in a home school or private school, as long as they can control the tests being written to measure only what is specified in the national standards, and the home school or private school student will do well only if he has been taught the “standards.” No Place to Hide!
The incidences of government surveillance are becoming unnerving for innocent people. We have the eye in the sky and cameras everywhere at ground zero but it seems even with more surveillance you’d think crime would diminish but the opposite seems to be happening. Tracking devices on some cars allow police help find stolen cars and vehicles that have been involved in a crash. In August 2002 it was reported that Northern California was proposing tracking electronic toll-payment devices affixed to the windshields.
Neighborhood associations and gas, water and electric utility employees are also to help law enforcement. The list of those required to report suspected child abuse has been expanded in the Oregon legislature this year and failure to report is a violation and carries a maximum penalty of $1,000 and mandatory reporters have also successfully been sued for damages in civil court for failing to report. Sensors are being placed in roads that can track every automobile. The Time Magazine reported in June 1990 that the U.S. was becoming surveillance-technology merchants to the world and and I suspect we “ain’t seen nothing yet!”
The Internet, computer and all the new technical devices are allowing Big Brother to gatherer data on all of us at a rapid pace, categorized and cross referenced – endless surveillance around the clock for 365 days a year ad infinitum and yet top-level secrets somehow are given to our enemies! It was only a short time after “Joe the Plumber” objected to presidential candidate Barack Obama’s ideology that the wealth should be redistributed that someone went through his private records with a fine-tooth comb and along with “spreading the wealth,” they spread private information about him. The “left” uses intimidation but it did not quiet him. He became a national celebrity.
What the Devil wants to use for evil, God turns into good.
It was noted by George Will in September 1994 that Ted Kennedy would have to actually break a sweat to get re-elected. It seems polling showed Kennedy, who was first elected in 1962 when Mitt Romney was 15, was in a statistical dead heat with his likely Republican opponent. It was at that time that Kennedy hired detectives to snoop into Romney’s past.
As early as 1998, it was reported that 20 million people would be monitored by camera for compliance with new global beliefs and values. Such a surveillance system was at the heart of President Clinton’s Executive Order 13107 and the Clintons dramatically increased their surveillance of the American people via wiretaps, monitoring of faxes, computers and credit card and banking transactions. Legislation was passed to give immunity to companies that aided wiretapping. Airport x-ray machines looked at all our luggage. Yelling about privacy went unheeded.
The Independent of London on November 22, 1999 reported the U.S. Department of Defense was lab-testing technology that could make it easier to automatically sift through a vast pool of private communications, including international telephone calls, in a similar manner to using an Internet search engine. Echelon monitors conversations in hundreds of languages and can adjust for different tones and accents. Calls containing keywords are identified, recorded and routed to the appropriate intelligence analyst for further examination. The 10/11/1999 New American reported both Russia and the U.S. political police were seeking Orwellian Internet powers but a month later the same magazine reported that the U.S. Air Force was training the Chinese Military in advanced surveillance radars.
George Orwell’s “1984” projects were completely illegal under our Constitution but by 1984, our Constitution had already been noticeably under attack since the early part of the 20th century. The abuses accelerated under President Franklin D. Roosevelt and a recent article in the Soviet Union’s newspaper, Pravda dated April 27, 2009 said the frosting on the cake came with the election of Barack Obama who mesmerized the voters into voting for him. Devvy Kidd in her great article explains how he pulled it off.
In November 1992, it was reported in an editorial by the Portland Oregonian that the Clinton White House and the Democrat Congress had no place to hide. Clinton ran on “change” and then picked the same old Washington Insiders for his transition leaders. Barack Obama, on the other hand, ran on “hope and change” and brought along the Marxist Chicago thugs to the White House and “hoped” no one would find out about his close connections to ACORN. Clinton once said, “We’re all in this together” and I’ve heard Barack Obama repeat something similar; however, if a nuke heads for Washington, D.C., the lickspittles will be found heading for the well-stocked underground bunkers for protection. That’s where V.P. Cheney could be found on 9-11. They have a place to hide!
