Welcome our new French Partner: Nantes!
Our new French partner, Credit Municipal de Nantes, has just been approved on June 18th 2013. We are very proud and happy to have such a awesome partner and such a promising currency pilot, the “SoNantes“, with us in CCIA.
Nantes’s currency, SoNantes, was inspired by the WIR system in place in Basel, CH. The local currency project in Nantes is promoted by the city of Nantes and the intercommunal structure of Nantes Métropole, and is being implemented by the Crédit Municipal de Nantes in the whole area of Greater Nantes.
This currency is basically a system of exchange of goods and services between businesses (B2B), which include individuals (B2C). As a result, the planned currency in Nantes will constitute a payment system between members that does not rely on coins or banknotes. The use of this deposit money is regulated by a mutual credit system aimed at recording each user’s credits and debits, within limits set on a case-per-case basis. Every person will be able to make purchases from any company that has joined the scheme (traders, craftsmen, etc.), and will have access to certain local public services.
Nantes’s currency will be in use within the 24 municipalities of the local conurbation. Its aims are to complement the Euro and to be an innovative tool, helping to promote exchanges between local economic stakeholders, thus contributing to the balanced development of our local area.
The SoNantes will go into alpha-testing later this year and launch to the public approximately early 2014.
More about this next week, after the current International Community Currency Systems Conference in The Hague,www.iss.nl/ccs2013, where most of our partners can be met in person.
