Businessman accused of shooting manager inside credit union

Venice, February 11 - A local bank manager was shot in the abdomen Monday morning allegedly by a businessman inside the Cooperative Credit union in the community of Campodarsego, police say. Pier Luigi Gambarotto is in serious condition after he was shot in his office on the first floor of the bank at about 9am during a dispute over a loan. Police have arrested Luciano Franceschi, a businessman in the dairy sector who is also head of a local self-government political movement in the region. They say witnesses overheard a loud discussion that ended in gunfire. Police scuffled with the accused before disarming him. Campodarsego is located near Padua.
