Dream Change - Message from John Perkins

Pakistan – the World – is Listening
John Perkins

Dear Friends,

I so appreciate the continued work you do in your own communities and in following your passions to make this a more just and sustainable world. We must join together to effect global change, our efforts make a difference.

As an example, a couple days ago I was enjoying breakfast with my wife Winifred and listening to NPR’s Morning Edition. Steve Inskeep, in Pakistan, interviewing a Pakistani student, reported:

Taseer talked about the book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by author John Perkins, who claimed the U.S. was plotting dominance over other nations. Hundreds of students on this campus receive scholarships partly financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development. But Taseer says most U.S. aid goes to the Pakistan military.

I was thrilled to hear the reference to my book, but even more excited by once again receiving confirmation that our messages are having huge impacts -- people across the planet are taking action.

We see how countries all over the world are now rejecting tyranny. As we stand with them, we must also demand that in our own country our leaders will hearken to the call for a new economy based on doing well by all people – workers, consumers, and those who do not have jobs or food on their tables. The time for greed and excessive materialism has passed.

I urge you to ask as I have many times, how many decisions – including ones of great historical significance that impact millions of people – are made by men and women who are driven by personal greed rather than a desire to do the right thing? How many of our top government officials are motivated by ego – as well as outright bribes – instead of national loyalty? How many wars are fought because a president does not want to be perceived as “wimpy”? Or because he is beholden to corporate interests and knows he is vulnerable to rumors, innuendos, and unproven accusations?

Despite all this, I am filled with great hope for the future as we demand more accountability and truth from our leadership. I continue to tell my story because it MUST be told. The Pakistanis are listening. So are Nigerians and Bolivians. We are indeed global citizens. We live in a time of crisis – yet also incredible opportunity. It is only by understanding our past mistakes that we will be able to take advantage of future opportunities.

Many years ago the Shuar of the Amazon told me “the world is as you dream it.” We can trade in that old nightmare of polluting industries, clogged highways, and hungry people for a new dream based on Earth-honoring and socially responsible principles of sustainability and equality. We have the power to create profound and enduring change.

I look forward to joining you in materializing this success story!

I hope to see you at the upcoming "The Shapeshifting Buddha" workshop at Esalen http://www.esalen.org I will be facilitating with Llyn Roberts and encourage you to purchase Llyn's amazing new book based on our work together, Shapeshifting into Higher Consciousness. Ordering through the Dream Change link below supports the non-profit's efforts to transform global consciousness.
